Although it is not as well-known for wine production as other states, West Virginia is actually home to several quality wineries. Daniel Vineyards
If you want to taste some of the finest wine produced in West Virginia, then be sure to visit Daniel Vineyards, which produces wine made from grapes grown right on the vineyard. They grow a wide variety of grapes, including reds (such as St. Vincent and Marquette), whites (such as Chardonel and Cayuga), and a number of other varieties. They also host an annual Spring Wine Festival, which is an excellent opportunity to try some of the delicious wines and sample the hospitality for which this state is famous. The festival is usually held in June.
Roane Vineyards
This splendid little West Virginia winery, located in the small town of Spencer, is a perfect way to spend a relaxing afternoon, sampling the variety of wines that they have on offer. They offer reds such as Harvest Red and Elderberry, as well as whites such as Seyval Blanc and Country Lane. They have a tasting room that is ideal for both individuals, and they are also available for a variety of parties and other special events. They have also won several prestigious awards; their Blue Goose received a silver medal in the International Eastern Wine Competition.
Lambert’s Vintage Wine
This winery, located in the charming West Virginia town of Weston, is housed in a beautiful building and offers a superb selection of fine wines. This winery has been in business since 1992, and offers three types of wine: red (including Barbera, Merlot, and Petite Sirah), white (such as Pinot Grigio, Niagara, and Canadice), and blush (such as White Zinfandel and Blueberry Thrill). In addition to the wine (which guests are invited to taste), the owners also offer guided tours to show how the wine as made, and there are also a wide variety of locally made crafts for sale.
